Higher Education Qualification Courses offer several training programmes for instructors, lecturers, programme directors, PhD candidates and their supervisors, and students in Higher Education. These courses aim to develop your skills and understanding of learning and teaching, and engage with issues, concepts, and debates that will support your professional development in higher education.


Despite the call for using assessment to promote effective learning, most teachers remain underprepared to conduct classroom-based formative assessment and interpret the summative assessment information for improving instruction as well as learning.

Throughout the course, general testing and assessment topics are revisited, extended, interwoven and deconstructed, with the participants’ understanding strengthened by tasks and follow-up questions.


This is an introductory course of test design, covering many test techniques at a superficial level, with ways to compare strengths of different techniques and select complementary techniques to form an effective testing strategy.

The participants will have the opportunity to deepen and expand their understanding of the Heuristic Test Strategy Model for specification analysis and risk and concept-mapping tools for test planning.


This course is for academic research staff who would like some support whilst writing for academic purposes.  It introduces basic research writing skills including: conducting research, note taking, paraphrase, summary, direct quotation, positioning, and MLA or APA style citation.

The programme is designed to help participants produce their next paper. The course will also place emphasis on macro-level composition skills such as: essay structure, paragraph structure, coherence, unity; and micro-level skills such as: sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and mechanics.


This course is designed for experienced educators interested in giving local and international seminars and workshops. It aims to explore how to conduct seminars and helps participants to develop effective communication and language skills in order to plan and deliver successful presentations.

The participants will discover how to craft presentations around essential objectives, present key concepts and ideas. The course also gives an opportunity to deliver a workshop presentation to a group of teachers and to receive constructive feedback on polishing and mastering presentation delivery.
